Key OSHA Requirements for Aesthetic Facilities
Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
Critical for facilities performing procedures involving potential blood or body fluid exposure:
- Written Exposure Control Plan identifying at-risk procedures and employees
- Universal precautions treating all blood and body fluids as infectious
- Hepatitis B vaccination program for at-risk employees
- Annual bloodborne pathogens training for all staff
- Proper sharps disposal containers and biohazard waste management
- Post-exposure evaluation and follow-up procedures
Personal Protective Equipment
Mandatory PPE requirements for aesthetic procedures:
- Disposable gloves for all procedures involving skin contact
- Eye protection and face shields when splash/spray risk exists
- Protective gowns or lab coats appropriate to procedure type
- Employer-provided PPE at no cost to employees
- Training on proper PPE use, maintenance, and disposal
Hazard Communication Standard
Requirements for chemical safety in aesthetic facilities:
- Written hazard communication program documenting chemical inventory
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) accessible for all chemicals used
- Proper labeling of all chemical containers with hazard warnings
- Annual employee training on chemical hazards and safe handling
Laser Safety Requirements
Special requirements for facilities using laser equipment:
- Designated Laser Safety Officer with documented training
- Appropriate laser safety eyewear for specific wavelengths
- Warning signs posted at laser treatment room entrances
